Next weekend, on April 9 at 7p, the Normal Theatre is going to show a film called My Life as a Zucchini. That night, the film will be in French with English subtitles. It got good reviews. My husband and I are going to go! Here is what the Normal Theatre website has to say about it: My Life As A Zucchini (in French w/ subtitles) April 9, 2017, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM After his mother’s sudden death, Zucchini is befriended by a police officer, Raymond, who accompanies him to his new foster home, filled with other orphans his age. At first he struggles to find his place in this at times strange and hostile environment. But with Raymond’s help and his newfound friends, Zucchini eventually learns to trust and love, as he searches for a new family of his own. From its debut in Director’s Fortnight at Cannes to winning audience awards at festivals around the world, this accomplished debut feature from director Claude Barras, based on a script from acclaimed writer/director Céline Sciamma (Girlhood, Tomboy), was nominated for both an Academy Award® and Golden Globe Award® for Best Animated Feature. Brought to life through memorable character designs and expressive stop-motion animation, the story soars with laughter, sorrow, and joy, and stands as a testament to the resilience of the human heart. PG-13 / 66 min. This was on the Normal Theatre Facebook page today: There are films that break your heart while they make you laugh and feel an incredible amount of hope, striking the perfect balance of comedy and tragedy to connect with you on a deeper level. MY LIFE AS A ZUCCHINI is a complicated, beautiful film that you won't soon forget, perhaps best described as what would have happened if Francois Truffaut had worked with clay. It is best for slightly older audiences; its PG-13 rating is due to thematic elements and some difficult questions that might be asked by younger viewers. We begin our run of this Golden Globe and Academy Award nominee tonight at 7pm with the French language version of the film; the equally lovely English version will show on Sunday at 7pm, and both will repeat next weekend as well. We hope you can join us.

This week, there were only three of us! We talked about food and travel, among other little things. Since only one person was able to share a future trip with us, there is no new assignment. When we get together next week, you can share either a trip from the past or a trip in the future. (See helpful videos above.) Par exemple, Je vais aller en France veut dire I am going to go to France. Nous allons rester dans un hôtel veut dire We are going to stay in a hotel. During our first class, we chatted a lot! We talked about what we did since the last time we saw each other. Patti told us about Christmas, Patricia told us about her surgery, Kathy told us about the marches in which she's participated, and Colleen told us about her last trip to France. Next week, we are going to talk about either a trip we've already taken or a trip we want to take. If you want to talk about a trip in the past, remember the compound past tense. In order to review compound past, have a look at the below attachments. If you want to talk in the future, there are two options: simple future and close future. Simple future requires a conjugation that you haven't learned yet. But close future, you can do with the verb aller. For example, Je vais aller en France means I am going to go to France. Nous allons rester dans un hôtel means We are going to stay in a hotel. Note that you must conjugate the verb aller but leave the second verb in the infinitive (to go, to stay).
