Le week-end prochain, le dimanche 9 avril à 19h, le Normal Theatre va passer le film Ma vie de courgette. Cette nuit-là, le film va passer en français, sous-titré en anglais. Les critiques de film sont bonnes. Mon mari et moi allons y aller!
Next weekend, on April 9 at 7p, the Normal Theatre is going to show a film called My Life as a Zucchini. That night, the film will be in French with English subtitles. It got good reviews. My husband and I are going to go! Here is what the Normal Theatre website has to say about it: My Life As A Zucchini (in French w/ subtitles) April 9, 2017, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM After his mother’s sudden death, Zucchini is befriended by a police officer, Raymond, who accompanies him to his new foster home, filled with other orphans his age. At first he struggles to find his place in this at times strange and hostile environment. But with Raymond’s help and his newfound friends, Zucchini eventually learns to trust and love, as he searches for a new family of his own. From its debut in Director’s Fortnight at Cannes to winning audience awards at festivals around the world, this accomplished debut feature from director Claude Barras, based on a script from acclaimed writer/director Céline Sciamma (Girlhood, Tomboy), was nominated for both an Academy Award® and Golden Globe Award® for Best Animated Feature. Brought to life through memorable character designs and expressive stop-motion animation, the story soars with laughter, sorrow, and joy, and stands as a testament to the resilience of the human heart. PG-13 / 66 min. This was on the Normal Theatre Facebook page today: There are films that break your heart while they make you laugh and feel an incredible amount of hope, striking the perfect balance of comedy and tragedy to connect with you on a deeper level. MY LIFE AS A ZUCCHINI is a complicated, beautiful film that you won't soon forget, perhaps best described as what would have happened if Francois Truffaut had worked with clay. It is best for slightly older audiences; its PG-13 rating is due to thematic elements and some difficult questions that might be asked by younger viewers. We begin our run of this Golden Globe and Academy Award nominee tonight at 7pm with the French language version of the film; the equally lovely English version will show on Sunday at 7pm, and both will repeat next weekend as well. We hope you can join us.

L'article peut se trouver ici: thepowerofbonjour.pdf
J'ai aussi mentionné un article qui explique quels noms en français sont féminins et quels sont masculins. Si vous avez le temps de lire et étudier un peu cet article, cela peut vous aider à mieux le comprendre. Le point à retenir est que: Feminine noun endings
Voilà l'article: The Gender of French Nouns I told you about an article in the "Wall Street Journal" that emphasizes the importance of saying "Bonjour, Madame/Monsieur" and "Au revoir, Madame/Monsieur." The article can be found here: thepowerofbonjour.pdf I also mentioned an article that explains which French nouns are feminine and which are masculine. If you have the time to read and study a bit this article, it can help you better understand. The most important point from the article is: Feminine noun endings
Here is the article: The Gender of French Nouns I also just remembered a wonderful YouTube channel to tell you about, but I think you have plenty for this week! I will tell you next Tuesday.
I also wanted to give you the links for the online resources I showed you: - wordreference.com - a dictionary with a lot of additional information - conjugator.reverso.net - a verb conjugator If you haven't yet bought the text, it's called Learn French the Fast and Fun Way (4th edition). ISBN: 978-1-4380-7494-8 I know that you can find it on Amazon, and I think you can find it at Barnes and Noble. At Amazon, there are cheaper options if you buy used. Also, a reference that I find to be excellent for conjugating verbs is the Bescherelle. You can find it on Amazon. Again, you can purchase it for cheaper used. This one, I do not see at Barnes and Noble. If you are looking for more resources for French learning, I suggest duolingo.com. Also, both libraries (Normal et Bloomington) have Mango Languages, a free online course if you have a library card. I don't know it very well, but yabla produces quite a few videos for beginning French learners. Finally, you can listen to French radio online: nrj.fr for example is a French radio station with live streaming. Hier soir, nous avons fait tout l’introduction, et nous avons commencé le chapitre 1. Nous avons appris l’alphabet, la prononciation, les salutations, et les article définis. Je vous ai demandé de faire les devoirs suivants:
1. Les salutations (Ch1) A. Répondons! B. Salut… 2. Les articles définis (Ch1) - just the first half of page 4 * Please note, there is a mistake in the definite articles chart. The masculine singular form of “the” is “le.” Si vous avez des questions, n’hésitez pas à laisser un commentaire ou m’envoyer un email! Last night, we did the entire introduction, and we started Chapter 1. We learned the alphabet, pronunciation, greetings, and definite articles. I asked you to do the following homework: 1. Les salutations (Ch1) A. Répondons! B. Salut… 2. Les articles définis (Ch1) - just the first half of page 4 * Please note, there is a mistake in the definite articles chart. The masculine singular form of “the” is “le.” If you have any questions, don't hesitate to leave a comment or to send me an email! Chaque semaine, je posterai un nouveau blog sur ce que nous avons appris, pour vous rappeler des devoirs, et pour vous encourager de continuer à étudier pendant la semaine. Si vous avez des questions, vous pouvez laisser un comment ou m'envoyer un e-mail. Je suis contente de vous apprendre un peu de français ce semestre!
