Last night, we talked mostly about the school system in France and how it differs from (and is the same as) ours in the U.S. The biggest difference is in the cost, but there are differences as well in the administration, subjects covered, days/times, etc.
Here are the videos we watched in class: France’s Gourmet School Lunches School Lunch in France (Michael Moore) Une journée au lycée (A day in high school) Francais: Journal des ados: l’école (French: Diary of adolescents: school) We didn't get to Garou (singer), Intouchables (film), or Paris (monuments + museums) so we'll do those the week after Thanksgiving! Please remember: no class next week. Bonne Thanksgiving!

Merci pour la première classe ce soir!
Thank you for the first class tonight! Here is a bit more information on Notre Dame's current situation: The Local. It is my understanding that Notre Dame will be closed until it has been restored (or at least until further notice). Mass is currently being held at Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois, just near Notre Dame but on the mainland. Jodie told me about this Not Even French channel on YouTube - a young woman from New Zealand living and working in Paris shares her views on life and culture. I watched a few and enjoyed them a lot! Some suggested videos from the musical Notre Dame de Paris: Le temps des cathédrales Belle Vivre Il est beau comme le soleil Les cloches The other of Édith Piaf's most famous songs that we didn't listen to: La vie en rose The video of the Loire Valley Castles that we didn't get to! |
La culture françaiseWhile this class will certainly touch upon French language, the idea was to offer an opportunity to give those interested a behind-the-scenes look into some of the nuances of French culture. Archives
